Twice a day without fail, the Bays of Saint-Malo and Mont-Saint-Michel are the scene of the largest tides in Europe, with a 13-metre tidal reach (the difference between high and low tide). That’s almost as high as a 5-storey building ! When the tide goes out, it leaves a huge expanse of sand and radically transforms the landscape.

… fishing along the shore

At low tide, the sandy shore is full of different types of shellfish, much to the delight of amateur fishermen equipped with boots, buckets and small rakes, eagerly searching for the best places to find oysters and crabs to take home for their lunch or supper.
